Skeletal trees

(I'm unsure why the photo has this orientation on blogger)

Yesterday, my friend Jill and I went on a workshop at Quilter's Haven in Suffolk. Just a trip to the shop and lunch in the cafe opposite is a treat in its self. The workshop was tutored by Helen Howes and was based on her collection of work on trees. Her initial sample was a miniature piece made in silk and displayed at the Festival of Quilts in 2011. The technique was new to all who attended, but with her great teaching skills and guidance we all came home with a completed wall hanging. I was interested in going on this workshop as I thought it might give me ideas for a wallhanging that I would like to make. I have recently been invited to join the Exhibiting Group Fen Edge Textiles and this has definetely given me food for thought for the wallhanging that will fit in with the body of work that I'm working on at the moment. I need some warmer weather, as I want to dye lots of fabric and get some  thermofax screens made by Lynda Monk, ready for printing.

I have been feeling really down recently, for absolutely no reason (expect it is the weather). Yesterday was just the kick-start I needed to get me going again. On Saturday, my daughter and I are off to London for afternoon tea (early Mother's day treat) with the Mad Hatter! Alice in Wonderland was my favourite book as a child, I am so excited! It amazes me all the special events/places that my daughter finds to go. I know some of them she finds on Twitter, when celebrities tag themselves in. She goes to the most amazing restaurants and bars with great themes, most of them I have never heard of before, each one always being a great expereience.
